Pulau Beras Basah

According to local legend, Beras Basah, which means Wet Rice Island, got its name when a rice-loaded boat was stranded on its shores after a violent storm unleashed by a furious spirit.

Today, this mountainous island at the south-west corner of Langkawi occasionally serves as a shelter and refuge for local fishermen when the sea is assailed by strong waves. Peaceful and idyllic with white powdery sand and clear blue waters, the main beach on the island has become one of the favourite snorkelling spots around Langkawi.
