Who Can Enter & Who Can’t?

In compliance with an updated directive, international travellers from the following countries are prohibited from entering :

  • South Africa

  • Botswana

  • Eswatini

  • Lesotho

  • Mozambique

  • Namibia

  • Zimbabwe

  • Malawi

Having said that, citizens of the said countries who have yet to set food in their homeland for the past 2 weeks are allowed to participate in the Langkawi International Tourism Bubble.

Besides, individuals tested positive for Covid-19 and those who are in close contact with Covid-19 patients are forbidden from travelling to Langkawi.

What to Include in Tour Packages:

  • Details regarding your accommodation and tour guide

  • Booking or payment of mandatory Covid-19 screening tests

  • Itinerary of your tour package

Insurance Enrollment

An insurance policy worth USD50,000 is to be purchased for Covid-19 and travel coverage. You may either purchase it from a Malaysian or a foreign insurance company prior to your departure.

To be considered fully vaccinated, one must wait for a period of 14 days after the second dose or after 28 days of the single dose, depending on the type of vaccine.

Can Children Travel?

For sure! Provided they are accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or guardians.

What to Do Before Departing for Langkawi?

It is mandatory for international travellers to undergo a Covid-19 RT-PCR/ RMT screening test 2 days prior to departure. The test result must be provided in a printed format and be presented to the authorities when requested. Ensure every supporting document is in English.

Entering Langkawi via KLIA1 (transit)

Be sure to check in your luggage directly to Langkawi for airlines followed by a code-sharing agreement (codeshare) with either Malaysia Airlines or by an interline arrangement.

Upon arrival at KLIA1, tourists will be given an identification tag by a private health screening operator.

Tourists vaccination certificate, health declaration form, proof of insurance, and MySejahtera will be scrutinised respectively.

Tourists will undergo another Covid-19 RT-PCR/ RMT screening test at KLIA1, in which must be factored into the tour package. For more information regarding the swab test, you may refer to this.

Only tourists with negative results are allowed to proceed to the Immigration Department counter for any further processing. Documentation required includes the passport, visa (if necessary), printed round trip flight tickets, and printed tour packages.

Suppose tourists are detected symptomatic or positive, the private facility screening operator will proceed to arrange the transfer of the particular tourists to either a designated quarantine location or private hospitals.

The transit interval at KLIA1 must be 5 to 6 hours prior to the next connecting domestic flight en route to Langkawi.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, all tourists who can’t manage to travel onwards to Langkawi on the same day can check into Hotel Sama-Sama Express located in KLIA1, or temporarily settle down in any permitted area at KLIA1.

Entering Langkawi (Non-Stop) via Penang (Technical Stop):

Upon arrival at the Langkawi International Airport, tourists will proceed to the Ministry of Health counter for the mandated inspection and quarantine clearance.

Tourists will be asked to present their vaccination certificate, pre-departure printed Covid-19 RT-PCR/ RMT results, health declaration form, insurance proof, and MySejahtera for inspection purposes.

Proceed to scan the “Langkawi Island International Tourism Bubble Traveller” QR code via mobile phones.

Then, undergo another screening test at the Immigration Department counter. Documentation required includes the passport, visa (if necessary), printed round trip flight tickets, and printed packages.

Another Covid-19 RT-PCR/ RMT test is performed on either the precise day of arrival or on the second day.

Tourists are allowed to embark on their tour provided their test results are negative.

Suppose tourists are detected symptomatic or positive, the tour operator will dispatch the particular tourists to either a designated quarantine location or a private hospital.

When Touring In Langkawi:

Ensure that your face mask is on at all times in public areas and vehicles. Remember to check in via the MySejahtera app at every stop or premise you intend to visit. Above all, make sure your MySejahtera profile always displays the low-risk status.

How Long Can you Stay On the Island?

There is an imposition of a minimum of 3-day stay in Langkawi as implemented under the Langkawi international travel bubble.

Staying in Langkawi for Less than a Week:

Tourists are necessitated to undergo a Covid-19 RT-PCR/ RMT test again on the 3rd and 5th day. Self-testing via Antigen test kits on the 2nd, 4th, and 6th day, followed by the reporting of the results on MySejahtera.
